Chinese silver dragons

Anyone recognise these coins?
I think some of them are Chinese silver dragons, but it looks like there's at least a couple of different coins, as the dragons don't have any kind of portrait on either side, while some of these do. |
Re: Chinese silver dragons
Based on your link, the Chinese seem to have quite a problem with the counterfeiting of their coins, even within their own boarders. Who knew, who could have predicted?

Re: Chinese silver dragons
Chinese trade dollars.
THey are being counterfeited with low alloy silver (10%). Look for the grainy cast look (porous surface under magnification) as opposed to the stamped planchet of an original. ST |

When I worked in Taiwan, I would see a lot of these in the flea markets. They would be there for months on end without moving. In the picture I notice a Japanese one Yen, some Sun Yat Sen and Junk dollars. While there though, I did pick up several real Japanese one Yen coins (.900). They were pretty pricey at the time...about 30.00 in different coin shops, and I'm talking about six to ten years ago. A lot of genuine Japanese coins of all kinds are still floating around in Taiwan. After WWII and the Japanese were thrown out of Taiwan, they were all rounded up and put on ships back to Japan. The caveat was that they left the island with only the clothes on their backs and empty pockets. Everything they owned in Taiwan stayed in Taiwan. |
